Obituary of George J. Strus

     George J. Strus, 73, of Old Forge, died Saturday, surrounded by his loving family, at Geisinger CMC after a brief illness.  He was married to the former Henrietta Piekarski Scavo.  The couple recently celebrated their 33^rd wedding anniversary.

     Born June 10, 1949, in Carbondale, he was the son of the late George and Evelyn Kania Strus.  He was a 1967 graduate of the former St. Rose High School, Carbondale, and earned an Architectural Engineering Degree at Penn State University.  Prior to retirement, he was the owner of S & W Fabrications, Dickson City, and was formerly employed at Scranton Craftsman, Throop.  He was a member of the Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea.

     George was a devoted family man and his greatest joy were his four beloved grandchildren. An avid traveler, his favorite past-times included fishing and hunting with his cousins. He and his wife enjoyed taking car rides around the local lakes and small towns to take in nature. He enjoyed spending time and sharing meals with his family, and board games with his youngest granddaughter. A huge football fan, George never missed a Sunday watching the New York Giants with his sister and enjoyed keeping up on the latest news of the team.

     In addition to his wife, Henrietta, George is also survived by two daughters, Cristan Strus and fiancée Brian Burd, Clarks Summit, Cheryl Scavo Spager and husband Bill, a son, Frank Scavo III and wife Caren, Old Forge, four grandchildren; Rylan, Sarah, Frankie, and Scarlett, a sister Cindy Strus, Carbondale, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Nativity of Our Lord Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 127 Stephenson Street, Duryea.

     Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Louis V. Ciuccio Funeral Home, 145 Moosic Road, Old Forge.
